Tools and Hardware Reviews of Stanley 10788 Curved Quick-Change Utility Knife, Stainless Steel Retractable Blade, 3 BladesCustomer Review: Obviously not a tool for everyone! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first review, but after reading some the poor reviews on this knife I have to add my two cents. First, I've been a carpenter for nine years. i work on framing and finish job-sites, and need a good knife everyday. This is the only knife i will purchase, and only the second model of knife I have owned on a job-site. The first knife I owned was a older one with a screw. These are fantastic and never fail, but very slow on the blade change. About 8 years ago I bought one of these rapid change stanleys. It took a while to get used to. I bought it cause it was the only rapid change available that would fit in my designated knife pocket on my tool bags. All the other ones available were too wide. This knife is excellent once i got used to changing the blade. I probably own about six of these and have even sold a couple. These blades do get clogged and i have completely taken apart several on mine and cleaned them up, back to perfect working order. I would not recommend this knife for drywallers. The drywall clogs the parts very easily and you will spend more time taking it apart than using it. But, for everyone else this is a good knife. On all my knifes it is extremely quick and easy to change out the blades. I've never bought one that was faulty or impossible to change blades. I own so many, because at sears i came across on clearance a 25' fatmax and this stanley knife in a package deal for $10. I bought all the ones they had since the knife alone at home depot costs $10. So, getting back to the negative reviews for this knife. I am fully aware of the idiocy that is out there. I actually worked in Mississippi for two years and even they liked this knife. I did have to instruct them carefully on how to change the blades, because like most morons they give up and call things crap just cause its not rated for a two year old. I understand peoples frustrations, but dont take it out on a quality product. Just cause there seems to be a learning curve with this knife does not in anyway make it a poor design. It is durable and takes all the punishment that i can dish out without breaking. And again, for me, just like it should be for everyone , it is extremely quick and easy to change the blades.
