We ordered two of these for use indoors to turn our lights and heat on for the dog if we stay at work past dark - they work perfectly for this purpose, and have proved to be very reliable. We were using one with a lamp with a CFL bulb for a while, and it worked great with the CFL - none of the flickering you might get with a digital timer. The one potential downside is that we've found it difficult to set the timer super-precisely - if you need something to turn on at 10pm exactly, and not maybe 9:57 or 10:01, you might want a digital timer.
