Tools and Hardware Reviews of Stanley 60622 Folding Adjustable Sawhorse, Twin-PackCustomer Review: Lightweight Sawhorses For Light-Duty Work Summary: 5 Stars
Well, the Stanley 60622 sawhorses arrived relatively intact, which is amazing considering the condition of the box they arrived in. The box was larger than the sawhorses, with no padding inside, so the sawhorses had about a foot of space to flop around side-to-side and about two inches to flop around end-to-end. As a result, the box was literally beat up from the inside. And, of course, that empty space grew as the box was pushed out of shape, resulting in even more movement of the sawhorses and more damage to the box. I've posted images of that box (unopened, just as it arrived) above so you can see the outcome.
Anyway, other than a few scratches and scuffs, the sawhorses appear to be just fine. Strangely, mine didn't come with the yellow stickers on the sides indicating the height of the sawhorses. No glue remains, so don't think they were ever installed. The Stanley website sells replacement rubber feet and similar, but not these stickers. A representative from the company said they'll ship a set from their factory in Israel.
The sawhorses will be used in my carpeted basement workshop or on the cement patio just outside, depending on the physical size of the materials being handled. Sawhorses seem fairly stable (no slipping or sliding) on both floor surfaces. Cannot say same about adjacent marble patio. Feet slipped easily on that surface, spreading the sawhorse legs ever wider as weight was added. The sparse instructions warn against slippery surfaces, which seems like good advice to heed. The sawhorses also bounce around a bit while pounding or nailing, which could cause the legs to slowly crawl outwards and likewise fail.
Haven't tried any weight support tests, but (dispite manufacturer's claims & glowing reviews here) I wouldn't feel comfortable placing more than about a hundred pounds on these, especially if I'm also leaning onto the work to hold it steady. After all, the sawhorses are made entirely of soft plastic and that plastic seems to flex and twist very easily. Regardless, the sawhorses appear sturdy enough to support a few sheets of plywood or a moderate sized project. The two slid-out supports on the top for wider materials seem particularly flimsy. Cold plastic is brittle (easily damaged), so load capacity should be adjusted accordingly and sudden impacts (nailing, etc) avoided in cold environments.
The product description says nothing about extra attachments, so I was surprised to find two yellow plastic x-shaped brackets tied to the sawhorses upon arrival. Same sawhorses purchased a few weeks ago from another source did not include these. Anyway, the brackets slip over the two slid-out supports on the top of either sawhorse to hold plastic pipe, round or square metal tubing, flat metal stock, smaller wood stock (2x2's, etc), and similar. Obviously, a very handy addition the manufacturer should tout a bit more. The brackets work best (more stable) when the slid-out supports are not extended.
The sawhorses can fold out of the way when not needed and easily fit through a doorway while folded. The height adjustment feature is especially nice. Not only does it allow you to adjust the sawhorses for your own unique physical height, it also allows you to get closer to or further from the work on each project. It's also fairly effective for aligning the sawhorses to surrounding work surfaces to support larger materials. This feature is so handy, I wish all commercial sawhorses offered something similar. Absent that, I'll probably end up building a set of adjustable sawhorses if I ever need heavier duty versions in the future.
In a nutshell, a decent product for those seeking lightweight sawhorses able to support moderate loads.
